Evolution of form

Ferrari sports cars have long stood for their close connection to racing. In an almost symbiotic relationship, the insights gained in car racing have often found their way into the development of new vehicles. Continuing this history in an innovative and groundbreaking manner, the SF90 Stradale is the first PHEV model (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) manufactured by Ferrari in series. The use of a pioneering technology based on a combination of a combustion engine and three electric motors also represents a step into a new stylistic direction. Entirely reinterpreting the well-known sporting proportions of the Berlinetta model with its mid-rear-located engine the SF90 Stradale takes its inspiration largely from Ferrari’s recent supercars. The aim in designing this model was to successfully transmit the car’s mission as being both an extreme sports car and a true first series production supercar. Thus, the more compact overhangs of the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the frontward-shift of the cabin have created a cab-forward-type architecture that consistently emphasises the mid-mounted engine. Taking a futuristic approach, the impressive ambience of the driver’s compartment interior is inspired by aeronautic design and a focus on creating a panorama-view cockpit with particular emphasis on instruments that wrap around the driver.

Statement by the Jury

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale embodies the style and spirit of Ferrari at a single first glance. As an all-round coherent reinterpretation, it impresses with its balanced proportions. The design pays due respect to the brand history and has managed to find the perfect form for the modular PHEV architecture. Inspired by the Ferrari supercars, it offers their driving experience in harmony with state-of-the-art drive technology.
