Finger Protection Door

A new door edge for finger protection has been developed, particularly for use in nurseries, to minimise the risk of trapping fingers in the space between the door edge and frame. For educational reasons the aim was not to prevent the risk of an accident, but to limit the degree of injury. Due to the rounded form, as well as the bands integrated into the door frame, the edge of the door panel always remains at an equal distance to the door frame when the door is opened and shut. The possibility of a child’s finger becoming jammed in the gap between door and frame is thereby ruled out.

Statement by the Jury

This innovative piece of door furniture considerably reduces the risk of trapping fingers without needing to change the shape and geometry of the door leaf.
