App
Forbidden City Xiangrui
This educational iPad app was developed for studying the Chinese traditional visual symbolism system of xiangrui (good omen). This vast spectrum of symbols was used to praise the prosperity of the kingdom and define ranking orders in the “Forbidden City”, which refers to the Chinese imperial palace. In order to intuitively communicate this system, a vertical scroll was implemented and, by means of continuous interaction, the meaning of each symbol is decoded. When the iPad is flipped 90 degrees, a map displays each symbol’s exact location. In addition, game elements and share options allow to improve and exchange knowledge.
