Public Welfare Academy

Home of Bamboo and Lotus

This charitable academy, which aims to help disadvantaged children learn how to read, is situated in the village called Xiamutang. Several challenges needed to be met in its construction: the project funds were very limited, it had to be built in just 20 days and the rural conditions of the area made construction difficult. The site chosen is deliberately located at a transit path in the village. A surrounding bamboo forest became a source of inspiration: it not only forms the border of the premises, but also contributes to maintain trafficability.

It is impressive how this architectural project adapts to the difficult building environment and creates a charitable education centre for children.
