The Mono Hotel in Singapore’s historic Chinatown area has been refurbished to appeal to the target group of young social-media-savvy travellers who place strong importance on design in their choice of lodging. The objective of creating a strong visual branding for the 46-room hotel has resulted in a monochromatic colour scheme that offers a calming sight for guests after they return from exploring the city. Despite using simple, low-cost materials such as an old-school mosaic in the bathrooms and a 38 mm thick black metal bar for the lighting point, this purist hotel offers a high design value.
