Professional kitchens are industrious environments where every move of the entire team tends to be practised and feels almost automatic. In the early stages of the development process, the Invoq oven designers considered how they could best support these structured workflows by talking to chefs, kitchen assistants, managers and service staff. An open innovation forum provided insights into the needs, difficulties and wishes of food service experts around the world when it comes to industrial ovens. The idea was to clearly identify the special requirements of this particular working environment. Those insights were incorporated into an innovative modular architecture suitable for multiple markets with an almost 50 per cent reduction in individual components. The streamlined production process was primarily achieved by the clever design of the oven front, and it had the positive side effect of addressing the company’s sustainability goals. At the heart of the Invoq is the most complex element, the user interface, which is identically dimensioned and positioned in all sizes of the oven. All the other elements are arranged around it like tiles and can vary in terms of size and quantity. The Invoq has a minimalist, timeless and highly recognisable design that solves practical and specific problems in daily kitchen workflows. For example, the clever outer edge of the full-size glass door makes it resilient against the frequent knocks that are to be expected in a professional kitchen. Materials have been chosen to reduce the amount of stainless steel so that the oven's components, including the aesthetic door handles, can easily be removed for a deep clean. Another development focus was the UX/UI experience. The jury was very impressed by the smooth touchscreen for fast function selection. “The Invoq ticks all of the boxes for a professional oven. It’s easy to open and close, the surfaces are smooth and easy to clean, and it has a minimalistic look. The intuitive interface and the clever, user-optimised design features are particularly impressive.
