Aphasia is a disorder characterised by loss of speech. This two-volume work, combined in a slipcase, approaches the inner experience of a person suffering from aphasia and a relative with artistic and typographic means. The title “jwd” (an abbreviation for “janz weit draußen”, meaning “in the middle of nowhere”) describes the emotional state of someone suffering from loss of speech. The seemingly endless design of the pages, which only contain small steps, illustrate the recovery process. The text, which appears slow, describes the thoughts and perceptions of a person suffering from aphasia.
