Improvisational cooking can produce excellent cuisine, but compromises should never be made when it comes to choice of knife. Blunt blades have driven many an amateur cook crazy, and professional chefs won’t even put on their aprons unless their knives are precision-sharpened. That’s why the Kuhn Rikon Black Coated Knives Series is such an exciting proposition. The elegant black blades are seamlessly connected to the handle, creating a harmonious, aesthetic overall appearance. It also features perfectly balanced weight and an ergonomic shape for a positive tactile experience. Six knives ensure that the right blade for different food items is always to hand, and a pair of household scissors completes the functional set. A matching magnetic knife block reflects the designers’ intent to create a product that looks good in the kitchen setting. The knives nestle almost flush against the block, where they are transformed into a stylish eye-catcher. A non-slip chopping board with a juice groove completes the convenient and consistently designed set. The purist appearance of the knives is the ultimate outcome of a lengthy test phase. Finding the perfect shape for the handle and the exact blade angle for precise cutting results are also aspects that the designers intensively considered. “Achieving the perfect balance between the blade and handle was crucial. We spent a great deal of time refining the length and weight of each aspect to maintain an elegant, streamlined design while optimising function,” they commented. Choice of materials was also decisive to functional excellence. The knives are made from Japanese stainless steel, which is renowned for its hardness, sharpness and durability. A non-stick coating on the blades further enhances cutting performance and the cooking experience. “The Kuhn Rikon Black Coated Knives Series stands out for its exceptional quality and captivating aesthetics,” was the jury’s verdict. “Every detail is precision manufactured and ergonomically designed. In combination, the colours and design make an elegant and sophisticated statement that reflects the first-class choice of materials.”
