MOTOROiD2

Back Download

A typical motorcycle is operated in a clear user/tool relationship, but MOTOROiD2 introduces a new kind of dynamic meant to foster attachment through two-way communication. At low speeds, MOTOROiD2’s self-balancing technology allows a rider to effortlessly hop on or off the bike and even control it with the upper body leaning away from the machine, allowing for a more relaxed riding posture. At higher speeds, the 'leaf' in the centre of the chassis becomes an interface, rising to meet the rider's chest. The system detects the rider's weight and hand gestures and reacts accordingly to steer. Instead of 'operating' the bike, it becomes a cooperative act for mutual 'enjoyment'. The areas in contact with the rider employ a translucent silicone material that not only lets light through but also absorbs shocks and vibrations. When the rider and machine are communicating, these visually convey the bike's reactions. MOTOROiD2's value is more than just being a functional self-balancing motorcycle for rider safety; it embodies a story about how owning a long-lasting consumer good may take on new meaning in the future and how spending time with it might turn into something special.
