Cell observation made easy

When cultivating cells, laboratory personnel must regularly monitor the condition of these microorganisms. Conventionally, this involves removing samples from the incubator and examining them under a microscope. However, this process is labour-intensive and carries the risk of stress to, and contamination of, the cells. With the Provi CM20 observation device, researchers can simply observe the cell cultures remotely without removing them from the incubator. To this end, the system regularly scans the cultures and carries outs cell-counts and density measurements. The data thus generated is then transmitted to a tablet or PC, so that the researchers can access it at any time and from any location. What makes the construction of this device so fascinating is its simplicity. The concept is based on a flat, open design that allows the user quickly and easily to place the culture receptacle on the scanner before beginning to monitor the cells. Developed to withstand high levels of humidity and heat, the Provi CM20 is extremely robust and durable. Its smooth, seamless surface and rounded edges ensure the consistent elimination of contamination risks and make the device easy to clean. Furthermore, its compact dimensions mean that the space in the incubator can be used in an optimal way and that several devices can be positioned side by side.

Statement by the Jury

The Provi CM20 observation device represents an innovative leap in cell cultivation. Remote monitoring renders the removal of samples from the incubator obsolete, significantly freeing up lab personnel and providing excellent experimental results. The design concept translates the highly advanced visualisation and analysis technology into an impressively compact device that is perfectly aligned with the demanding environment of an incubator.
