The Panadol Pain Phone was specially developed for rural areas in Indonesia. Seeking medical care there sometimes requires long journeys, which is why many people in pain wait too long before seeking treatment. The Pain Phone is reminiscent of payphones and connects patients with experts who can advise them remotely. It is equipped with a video screen for personal conversations and sensors to measure heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and oxygen levels.
Statement by the Jury
With its familiar phone-box design, the Pain Phone looks accessible, reduces fear of use of new technology and conveys security and privacy.
