Polestar 4

Those who do not look back sometimes see further. The Polestar 4 is the manufacturer’s first series model to deliberately dispense with the classic rear window – opening up new design and technical possibilities: a panoramic roof that extends far over the rear seats, an aerodynamically flowing coupé line and a digital rear viewing system that impresses with its precision and overview. As a model with purely electric architecture, the Polestar 4 clearly expresses its innovative strength – with a new light signature and a deep-drawn front section, among other things. Above all, however, it breaks with visual habits in two respects: by deliberately dispensing with the rear window and by transmitting the rear view via a roof camera to an HD screen in the interior mirror. The jury praised this radical design approach: “The Polestar 4 is an impressive design object in many respects – but the most striking and at the same time most unusual feature is the deliberate omission of the rear window. This design decision has triggered discussions, but it also contributes immensely to the recognisability of the model. Technically and formally, the omission follows a clear, comprehensible logic.” Indeed, dispensing with the rear windscreen had a significant influence on the design. On the exterior, it enabled a stretched, aerodynamically optimised silhouette. On the inside, the full-length glass roof allows for a more open architecture and creates an unusually bright and spacious feeling, especially in the rear. Light plays a central role in the overall effect of the interior. The ambient lighting with a fine technical mesh fabric integrated between the panels creates subtle floating effects that shimmer through the fabric in places and contribute to the calm atmosphere. The jury’s verdict: “The Polestar 4 impressively succeeds in harmonising the technical complexity of such an advanced vehicle with design qualities such as simplicity and clarity.” Its striking appearance may seem unusual – but what is still unusual today could soon set new standards.
