STAR
STAR represents the evolution of the so-called Buchertreppe, a staircase in which the handrail is an integral part of the support system. Instead of the conventional wooden handrail with a cross-section of up to 160 mm, now specially developed stainless-steel tubular elements with a cross-section of only 60.3 mm are used, which can be easily screwed together thanks to the innovative connectors. An advantage of the separate handrail elements is that they also minimise the amount of material to be transported.
Statement by the Jury
The STAR staircase is a fine example of how a product can be significantly improved even after 50 years. Particularly pleasing is how sustainability, functionality and a sophisticated aesthetic have been brought into harmony.
