Electromobility is one of the defining issues of today’s world, which means that EV charging systems will permanently change the face of our towns, both now and in the future. It is, consequently, all the more pleasing if functionality and aesthetics are cleverly interwoven, as is the case with the AC charging stations from Technagon. The verdict reached by the jury was the following: “Despite their different modules, these chargepoints have a coherent appearance characterised by an elegant, dominant stylistic idiom.” The modular construction of the chargepoints enables the straightforward production of all product variants, from compact wall chargers to charging pedestals, larger column-shaped charging stations, integrated or separate payment terminals through to fully customised housings. For use in public and semi-public spaces, the charging stations are made from stainless steel and aluminium. This combination of different metals not only gives them a high-quality appearance but, first and foremost, provides protection against vandalism and corrosion. The core element of the AC charging stations from Technagon is the charge controller with its computer-controlled human machine interface module. Externally, the controller acts as barrier-free user interface accompanied by an ambient light ring to illuminate the interaction zone. Because the system’s two charging points are angled towards the user, operation is particularly effortless and convenient. In addition, the menu navigation has been designed to be symbol-based and intuitive, so as not to require language. Internally, the controller functions as a stand-alone charging module which contains all the components needed to manage the charging processes. Every charge controller in every charger is identical, which means that all the processes, from production, certification, set-up, use, service and replacement through to removal, can be made effective and cost-efficient. The same is true for the modular roof with its highly visible 360-degree LEDs where identical housing profiles ensure that numerous common parts can be used, and production costs thus lowered.
