The fascination of structure

“A garden can become a world in itself, regardless of whether this garden is large or small,” is a quote attributed to Austrian poet Hugo von Hofmannsthal. A key aspect in designing the Telar seating collection was to lend the individual pieces of robust garden furniture a new overall expression that would be inviting, responsive and emotionalising. Showcasing a fascinating stylistic idiom, this outdoor furniture series comprises a chair with and without armrests, a lounge chair, a chaise longue and a matching ottoman. The aesthetics of the furniture is largely characterised by a specially woven double surface. Created with elastic belts of different sizes, this projects an appearance defined by an empty and permeable volume that replaces the classical padding. The surfaces are made by hand from high-quality Rope yarn, a durable synthetic fibre that had been specially designed for outdoor use. Inspired by the “minimal surfaces” of a rope net or tensile structure, the weave generates a double curvature surface combining tension and elasticity in a way that it welcomes and supports the body. With this open, elastic pattern, the Telar seating collection delivers good and ergonomic seating comfort. In addition, this also enables individual, timeless creations, as the stainless steel structure is available in 20 glossy colours and the straps in over 300 colours.

Statement by the Jury

The Telar seating collection impresses with its refined design appeal. The seat and backrest of the light metal structure are covered with belts made of Rope yarn, which gives this highly comfortable garden furniture a remarkable, visually light appearance. Durable and functional, the special material combination is ideal for outdoor use. The individual elements of the series complement each other perfectly and aestheticise their surroundings.
