The Floating Island

Back Download

The Floating Island is a temporary installation erected on the city’s canal during the six-month exhibition period of the Bruges Triennial 2018. Stirring the medieval landscape of Bruges, the island-like structure added a new view to the city during the exhibition. Taking the shape of a floating, long freestyle white carpet, the island provided an experience as if walking on water. In the sense of intermittent spots of the linear pathway, it included a variety of spaces of different sizes and shapes where people could take a quiet break or get lost in meditation as they sat on a rope chair to watch the water quietly flow by.
