The Tales from Where the Land Emerged

Back Download

Creative Expo Taiwan provides a platform for culture and design where visitors can experience the diversity of Taiwan’s rural culture. The Hualien Exhibition Hall, integrated under the title “The Tales from Where the Land Emerged”, invites visitors to follow in the footsteps of archaeologists who explored the legendary Hualien region on Taiwan’s east coast, surrounded by lush nature. Here, people once felt at one with nature, embraced the mountain spirit or whispered to the god of the sea, deeply imbued with spirituality. Upon entering the site in dim light, visitors first come across a stone installation rising from the ground. As if receiving a call from ancient times, visitors are invited to choose a stone and scan and analyse it. The exhibition then continues with a wall of stories on either side, conveying the animism and legends of times gone by, surrounded by authentic sounds, scents, paintings and objects that reflect ancient local daily life and allow visitors to experience the unique landscape and spirit of Hualien County with all their senses.

Statement by the Jury

The exhibition “The Tales from Where the Land Emerged” inspires with a design that conveys its theme – the once special relationship of the indigenous people of Hualien County with nature and their gods – in an outstandingly coherent and sensually tangible manner. Visitors are immediately drawn into the exhibition, which invites them to explore and experience those times gone by up close, underlined by authentic sounds and smells.
