The animation “To the stars” in a poetic way depicts the difficult transition from childhood to the adult world. The story takes place on a distant planet where a boy lives quite alone. When a visitor arrives in a spaceship and invites the boy to go with him, he initially hesitates. Both the visitor and the spaceship represent the opportunity to meet other people over the course of a life. In the end, the boy decides to leave and sets off into the unknown. The aesthetic of the imagery is reminiscent of classic Japanese children’s films and is consistent with a child’s imaginative world of experience.
