Under the Medal
In this animated film, a veteran is haunted by his memories of the war. On Memorial Day, a boy steals the man’s Medal of Honour from him in broad daylight. The veteran chases the boy into an alley. The further the veteran advances into the darkness, the deeper he goes into his past – all the way to his very first battlefield, on which he killed enemy combatants as a young solider. The journey through time is depicted via a flowing transition of background images, a variety of colour schemes and the veteran’s change in appearance. The play with light and shadow represents the two opposite sides of the war: glory and sin.
