Free interaction

To meet the demands of increasingly diverse working styles, the WORK CARRIER office furniture series aims to create a flexible environment in which furniture and humans can interact freely. The furniture was designed for people who work in a so-called ABW office (Activity-Based Working Office), which is based on the idea of self-determined activity in the course of the day. The design deliberately breaks with standardised thinking in linear modules characterised by office furniture that is all of the same height and arranged in straight rows. Instead, it seeks to encourage design freedom by providing effective usability of vertical space in the arrangement of this furniture, allowing it to be stacked as needed as well as to define the workplace according to changing use scenarios. Essentially, the anchor table frame from this series is a sheet metal construction. The strong frame allows for long tabletops without the need for otherwise distracting intermediate supports. The dominant shape of the table is largely determined by the sculptural appearance of its legs, which visually appear like a thick steel plate, but are hollow on the inside due to the rolled sheet metal processing. The table is therefore light and can be easily moved and transported. Moreover, since the design also does without straight lines or sharp corners, the table creates an open and pleasant working space regardless of its angling or placement.

Statement by the Jury

Based on a holistic design approach, this table impresses with its free arrangement in a given room. With its gently curved lines, it harmonises with the working environment and creates relaxing scenarios of togetherness. Its balanced design, which avoids corners and edges, is complemented by a haptically pleasant feel. It is lightweight and thus can be easily adapted to different workplace conditions.
