The Wuhan Pixel Box Cinema is a multiplex cinema in Wuhan. Films are composed of a series of images. A digital image is constructed of tiny square pixels that form a moving continuum. The design of this cinema centre is based on this relationship between movement and pixel. This turns the pixel into a fundamental element of the design and architecture, allowing cinemagoers to enter into the world of film while they are still on their way to the show.

This is the resolute execution of a simple initial idea. The “pixel” as an architectural element creates a thematic link between the imaginary and the material world.
