Flowing shape

“We change – and so do offices with us.” This premise was central to the design of the Yonda multipurpose chair. Based on a holistic approach, it aims to combine different areas of use for relaxation or teamwork. It realises the idea of an archetypal universal shell-structure chair in a modern, dynamic design. Another design guideline was an optimisation for the needs of resource efficiency and sustainability. Yonda’s biocomposite seat shell is made from recycled plastic and wood waste, such as that produced in sawmills. Thanks to the armrests that are seamlessly integrated into the lines, the shape of the seat shell appears fluid and at the same time independent and dynamic. This chair has a high surface quality and is intended to emotionalise with its soft design language. Made from one piece and homogeneously connected to the swivel-mounted frame, it showcases a uniform appearance with an integrated rocking function that invites users to feel good by actively sitting on it. The chair has a frame made of recycled aluminium and a seat upholstery covered with recycled fabric that can be mono-fraction sorted. With four kinds of upholstery, six colours and four frame options, Yonda has emerged as both a customisable universal chair and a contribution to the culture of the times. In addition, it is durable and repair-friendly. In terms of design, it thus embodies an appealing and aesthetic ecological transformation.

Statement by the Jury

What is impressive about the Yonda multipurpose chair is the perfect integration of the armrests into the elegant seat shell. The chair shows an expressive design language in which each of the parts in a reduced number has received its due attention. The design made from recycled materials is contemporary and gives this chair an honest appearance and feel. Yonda is comfortable, highly flexible and adapts to the user’s body.
