Zhengze School

Back Download

The Zhengze School in Beijing is located in a densely built-up area of the old town, for which numerous building regulations exist. However, by repurposing a former paper mill, existing space capacities could be optimally used for educational purposes. For this, parts of the building were converted into a sports and lecture hall as well as into science labs, and the sports field found is located on the roof. The characteristics of a factory building were preserved, but were sensitively adapted in light colours, with an intelligent lighting concept and special design details.

Statement by the Jury

The successful transformation of an old paper factory into a contemporary and functional school building is impressive.
