Established in 2005, Red Dot Award: Design Concept was founded to create a platform that could identify and celebrate design concepts before they become tomorrow’s leading products, a platform that could ‘see the future’. In a world where innovation moves quickly, ideas in their early stages are often the spark that changes everything. This award recognises design capabilities behind the projects that push boundaries and offer a glimpse into the future of how we might live, work, and experience the world.

Today, the award is a reliable and professional benchmark for design excellence. It celebrates designers, studios, corporate design teams and the forward-thinking minds from around the world that create ripples from small leaps to those who dared to imagine a new future.

Red Dot Jury

Informed by the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, the Red Dot Jury assesses the design quality of the entries and decides on the Red Dot distinctions to be awarded.

In search of professional excellence

Companies, design studios, and design professionals in manufacturing and service industries are invited to submit their best design projects to the jury to be recognised and to be presented to the world. The highest recognition in this award is the prestigious Red Dot: Luminary. It is awarded to the best design concept for the year. Over the years, winners of the Red Dot: Luminary include design projects from Hyundai Motor Company, Lilium, BionicM Inc., Yamaha Motor and Google Inc.

Best of young designers under 30

Young professionals and design students under the age of 30 are invited to enter their design projects as Next Gen projects. Through these projects, the award aims to identify the next generation of designers who will define the future. The highest achievement emerging from the best of young designers is the Red Dot: Peter Zec Prize that comes with a prize of 10,000 Singapore Dollars sponsorship from the Founder and CEO of Red Dot, Prof. Dr Peter Zec.
