Interview with Henning Rieseler

Red Dot: PRESTIGE features an innovative hinge. What prompted you to design it?

We wanted to unite form and function at the very highest level by creating a shower system that performed well and was visually appealing. So we needed a solution that enabled the hinge to be fully embedded into the rod profile. We wanted people to see a slim, continuous profile without visible plastic parts at first glance.

What are the advantages of this new design for the user?

Unlike conventional systems, this hinge doesn’t protrude in any direction, nor does it look contrived. Also, its geometric form is very calm. So the series is subtle and unobtrusive without appearing fragile. The robust yet lightweight construction has a timeless appeal that underscores its high quality. The hinge function has also been enhanced to facilitate opening by up to 360 degrees rather than the previous 180 degrees.

How did the collaboration between Artweger and the F. A. Porsche design studio work?

It was defined throughout the entire project by a shared understanding of quality, precision and design standards. The studio’s task was to support the Artweger brand to achieve clarity of design without losing sight of the functional and brand-specific strengths. We communicated very openly and embraced a solution-oriented approach defined by mutual respect – and that is what fostered innovation.

Is PRESTIGE a great example of how intelligent design can unite function and form?

Definitely. PRESTIGE shows how thoughtful design can elevate both form and function to a new level. The range’s understated aesthetic conceals technical refinements that improve the daily user experience.
