Red Dot: Is Float Mini a reflection of the remote working trend or did you also have other locations in mind?
Remote working was a key consideration in the Float Mini development process, and it is a response to the growing demand for flexible, compact workstations. However, we also started out with the intention to make it seamlessly integrate into other environments, such as hotel rooms, co-working lounges and guest suites. A small footprint, intuitive function and reduced visual presence make the desk suitable for a variety of environments outside the home.
How important were ergonomic considerations to you?
Ergonomics are central to the design process at Humanscale. We kept the design clear and unobstructed to permit natural movement and to maximise legroom. The off-centre foot prevents the user’s knees from knocking against it, and it is possible to stand or sit comfortably without the need to adopt an unnatural posture. The design can also be customised to different body types or clothing needs, which makes it more inclusive. Weight distribution and structural integrity were two elements that we gave a great deal of thought to.
What is the idea behind the appealing colour palette?
We created a colour scheme that complements modern interiors. It is neutral enough to blend in, but distinctive enough to be noticed. The surfaces were chosen to convey tranquillity, clarity and convenience. We wanted users to feel comfortable with Float Mini in their personal space, so the colour palette had to be inviting, not clinical. Ultimately, we aimed to achieve a feeling of lightness and focus.
