Red Dot: How does the adaptive design of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable redefine the traditional concept of laptop mobility?

Mobility, performance and usability are fundamental requirements in notebook design – but their realisation has remained largely static for decades. While most manufacturers have mainly made minor system adjustments, the basic design principle has not changed significantly. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, on the other hand, attempts to break this rigid pattern. Using the latest technology, it combines a compact chassis with a retractable display, redefining the relationship between size and flexibility. Even more crucial is the underlying design approach: moving away from a passive performance device to an intelligent tool that proactively responds to the user – an approach that could become a new paradigm in the age of AI.

In times of AI and hybrid working – what role does design play today as a mediator between intelligent technology and emotional user experience?

Today, design is much more than a functional framework – it becomes the link between technology and people. Especially in times of AI and hybrid offices, it must not only make complex functions visible and understandable, but also address emotional needs for autonomy, connectedness and meaning. In this dual role, design not only creates interfaces, but also relationships – between people, devices and environments. The challenge is how design can be developed in such a way that it learns together with AI, reacts to changing requirements and adapts – dynamically, empathetically and with foresight.
