Polestar Performance AB
Interview with Juan Pablo Bernal, Maria Uggla, Subum Lee

Red Dot: What characteristics would you attribute to the Polestar 4?

Throughout the design process, I had one central keyword in mind: “pure”. For me, purity goes beyond minimalism – every element is purposefully designed to emphasise what is essential, noticeable beyond the surface. With this guiding principle, the Polestar 4 should embody our new identity and vision. It is the consistent further development of our previous models – a statement for “Pure, Progressive, Performance”.

How can the technical complexity of the Polestar 4 be combined with Scandinavian clarity?

It’s about making it feel effortless. Even though the Polestar 4 is equipped with advanced technology, the focus is on a seamless user experience. Clean lines and calm surfaces ensure a discreet integration of functions, making technology visible when needed. The lighting, materials and operation are minimalist – but rich in detail and intention. This keeps the demand for high-tech in balance with a human-centred, Scandinavian understanding of design.

What significance does design have for the success and growth of the Polestar brand?

Design is a key success factor for Polestar. It’s not just about the appearance of the cars, but about a clear brand identity and unique user experience. Design helps to visualise our brand values, drive innovation and take a holistic approach to sustainability. It shapes everything – from the overall impression to the smallest interaction. Our cars should not only look good – they must also feel exciting. Together, design and performance are at the heart of what makes Polestar a modern, forward-thinking brand.
