Designed for the paper brand Curious handled by the Japanese paper company HEIWA Paper, this poster visualises the paper’s characteristically shiny metallic lustre. The approach is implemented as an image of hair achieved through a special treatment process. The paper has been cut into very thin strands, each 1 mm wide, to make it look like the dark black hair of a Japanese woman. The aim was not only to portray how Curious paper shines and dances beautifully, but also to convey a sense of the “life” that dwells in paper as a material object. The concept thus has leveraged the homonym between “paper” and “hair”, which in Japanese are both pronounced “kami”.
