Dante's Circles

Back Download

This digital project discusses the biography and work of Dante Alighieri with the help of 13 characters known from his “Divine Comedy” with whom the medieval poet was familiar or indirectly connected in real life. It also describes the placing of each character in Dante’s afterworld. Readers can choose to look through the project in the chronology of the “Divine Comedy” or in the chronology of Dante’s life. They can see, for example, imaginary views of hell, purgatory and paradise or a map of the afterworld. The project shows the connection between the world in the “Divine Comedy” and Dante’s real life and his times. The aim is for the context to make the poet’s literary works more understandable and relevant today.
