The book “daydream – jumping he” documents the exhibition of the same name held in Shenzhen, China, from March to May 2021. The solo exhibition featured works by Jumping He created between 1995 and 2020, and was divided into nine categories: Montage, The Indeterminate, The Mountains and the Water, Faces, Typography, Art, Reading, Identity, and Curation. The accompanying book provides a 678-page overview of the artist, designer and typographer’s graphic work over the past 25 years and is an expression of the living wellspring of his creativity, revealed in a multifaceted interplay of styles, forms and content that all reflect his artistic thinking and experience. The compactly designed book looks like a solid brick, but is very light and divided into nine corresponding chapters, which can be found quickly because they are marked with coloured sticky notes and each is preceded by a page printed in the colour of the sticky note. In addition, the Swiss-bound documentation contains 35 specially written articles by renowned graphic designers.

Statement by the Jury

The design of the book “daydream – jumping he” is truly spectacular. It offers a huge treasure trove of design experimentation and creativity, and combines the thematic focus of artist and typographer Jumping He with visual expression in an extraordinarily sophisticated way.
