Foxpat Surgical Trainer

Cementless Oxford Knee replacement has been one of the most successful and sophisticated knee reconstructions created by Zimmer Biomet. However, the surgical procedure requires crucial implantation techniques. Foxpat Surgical Trainer is a surgical simulator developed to train surgeons to perform the Oxford procedure correctly and efficiently, allowing them to practice the entire surgical procedure several times – from insertion to impaction of the implant – before actually operating on a real patient. Unlike existing digital simulators, Foxpat is a physical simulation of a human knee integrated with sensors to feedback on operational performance. The learning platform incorporates all the four stages of Kolb's experiential learning cycle: feel, observe, learn, and experiment. It provides a safe and realistic environment where surgeons can make mistakes and learn. Foxpat currently provides live feedback to the surgeons on the level of impact applied. The sensor data can be further used to analyse the learning curve, thus making the training more efficient. Red Dot Award: Design Concept | Ready to Launch | Education
