In the form of an illustrated dictionary, Girl Crush focuses on Chinese characters containing the radical “female”. The editorial design aims to convey social perceptions and cultural practices associated with these characters. For example, the character “married”, consisting of the components “female” and “family”, indicates that traditional marriage in China was a contract between families by which the parents of the bride married off their daughter. Through a modern, catchy style, the images entice the readers to engage with the dictionary content.
