RAEDA - Home Personal Trainer

Technique and form are crucial when strength training to avoid injuries, and this needs to be taught. However, personal trainers are expensive, so most people who can’t afford a trainer would explore some form of at-home exercise instead. As people become more accustomed to at-home fitness experiences, RAEDA brings the experience of a personal trainer to the comfort of their homes. RAEDA will help reduce injury through real-time coaching enabled by live remote learning, which is expected to become the norm. The RAEDA device works with any smart TV to provide an intuitive UI that shows a real-time visual straight from RAEDA’s camera. The TV acts like a mirror in the gym but shows the correct form and technique for the given exercise, allowing the user to adjust their form throughout. This is a piece of ‘shy technology’ that blends into the home seamlessly. However, since consumers are becoming more concerned about technological surveillance, RAEDA has a physical turn-off function. The lens is hidden in the base of the device. To activate, the ball is removed from the base and placed on the flat spot located at the rear of the ball. The lens is now visible to the consumer and is ready for use. The design of RAEDA is inspired by weights and gym equipment. Its form and materials give it a look of stability and a weighted feel when picked up. The base further emphasises the stability through the concave detail that resembles an imprint left in the ground by a heavy object. Using AI sensors, RAEDA provides real-time feedback based on the data it captures through body tracking. A 12-megapixel RGB camera in combination with a 1-megapixel depth sensor provides an advanced sophisticated device that is capable of capturing movements in 3D during home workouts.
