Red Dot: You claim that a few elegant and precise lines are enough to bring a new Lamborghini to life. Which lines define the Revuelto?
Lamborghini’s design DNA revolves around an outstanding silhouette that is instantly recognisable from afar. In the Revuelto, it is defined by a single, exciting centre line – a clear curve in the side profile. Even from the front and side view, a Lamborghini is unmistakable from a distance: the inclination of the side windows, the low cabin profile – typical Lamborghini. And when viewed from the rear, the Revuelto looks like a flat spaceship. This is the character of the main proportions. This is complemented by striking lines that utilise the Y-shape as a design rhythm – a consistent principle that surrounds the entire vehicle.
How did you reconcile tradition and change in Lamborghini’s first V12 plug-in hybrid?
We wanted to showcase the powertrain in a way that only motorbikes can – open, authentic and brave. For a super sports car, this is the most honest and, at the same time, most impressive way to design an engine. In short: “We dress the power”. The shape of the side profile alone shows where the engine is located.
“Revuelto is visible adrenalin”, you once said. Which design detail best expresses this?
I would say it’s the rear view, from the hexagonal exhaust system over the engine compartment to the rear window, through which you can see the Y-shaped centre console that looks like an alien. This visual axis unleashes pure adrenalin. But the design of the Revuelto expresses adrenalin from practically every perspective. From the daytime running lights to the side air intakes, that design element has been used very consistently.
