Red Dot: Who were the Ikon and Ikon Nova helmets developed for?

They were designed for climbers, mountaineers and via ferrata enthusiasts. The helmets meet the needs of avid amateurs who are looking for robust and durable headgear, as well as experienced climbers who want a balance between protection and low weight.

What eco-friendly aspects did you integrate into the product design?

Most of the components are easy to replace, which extends the helmet’s lifespan. All parts of the Ikon and Ikon Nova helmets can be dismantled for cleaning and recycling at the end of their life. The reduced packaging is made from FSC-certified recycled cardboard, contains no plastic and is optimised to reduce volume and improve transport efficiency.

What is the idea behind the colour scheme?

Choice of colour played a key role in the design process. We wanted to find colours that matched the helmet and reflected the world of climbing and mountaineering. We also felt it was important to take sportswear trends and other influences into account. Some of the colours were selected for technical or functional reasons, and they were combined to create contrasts that highlight the product components and details.

Which detail are you particularly proud of?

There is a small groove on the front of the helmet that slightly lowers the area around the logo. Though appearing to be a purely aesthetic detail, it actually fulfils an important function: it helps the user’s fingers to quickly locate the headlamp clip and slide the elasticated lamp strap into the correct position without having to remove the helmet, which is an advantage in difficult conditions on the mountain.
