Red Dot: Modular is much more than just an extractor hood. What are the advantages of the modular design?
The motor is housed in the upper part of the appliance, meaning that the central area can be used as storage space – which in turn can be extended with up to two additional modules. The controls are located in the lower area, flush with the surface, which gives the overall look an element of neatness. A narrow LED light strip positioned in the centre of the lower section of the hood illuminates the work surface and creates a pleasant lighting mood. Modular is also flexibly configurable. It can be used as a stand-alone unit or in conjunction with modules on either side. Meticulous attention to detail has produced an overall result that is as functional as it is aesthetic.
Can you tell us something about the choice of materials and their function?
Smoke-grey glass shelves give the storage areas an open and light appearance. They are also a deliberate contrast with the matt-black surface of the hood. The matt black of the uniform, non-reflective surface is reminiscent of classic industrial design, and black has also been an interior design sensation in recent years. Opaque black pairs very well with the smoke grey of the glass shelves and serves as a distinctive design feature.
Will the minimalist industrial aesthetic be with us for a while to come?
Industrial design is immortal. It has a timeless relevance that harmonises with a wide variety of kitchen concepts. The idea of what an industrial aesthetic is may change over time, but ultimately the core principles of open space and minimalism will always be a part of it.
