Interview with Ulrich Jürgenschellert

Red Dot: What was your aspiration when you developed PANOS III?

We wanted to remain true to the downlight family’s three proven USPs of optimum lighting quality, flexibility and energy efficiency. But we also aimed to embrace new applications by improving modularity, reducing installation depth and integrating D4i standard sensor technology.

What makes the series special in terms of technology?

We paid meticulous attention to sustainability in the development of PANOS III. All individual components – from drivers, LED boards and reflectors to mounting rings and heat sinks – can be conveniently replaced. This makes a quick upgrade or refurbishment possible, in order to increase the luminaire’s lifespan and improve its cost-effectiveness.

Can you tell us more about the special properties of PANOS III’s light?

PANOS III emits high-quality white light with excellent colour rendering (> CRI90) and impressive energy efficiency of up to 159 lm/W. It also produces saturated red tones (R9 > 50), which give human skin and materials a particularly natural appearance. The precisely moulded polycarbonate reflectors, enhanced with sputter technology, direct the light precisely to where it is needed.

Why did you also develop a pendant light?

The pendant version of PANOS III specifically targets new working applications. It creates a distinctive aesthetic, accentuates workspaces and helps to give spaces a cosy feel that promotes social interaction. It also meets the demand for flexibility because it can be quickly installed on track structures or on our TECTON LED light strip system.
