Gábor Palotai — The hardest thing to see is what is in front of your eyes.

Gábor Palotai is a Swedish-Hungarian graphic designer and artist born in Budapest, Hungary. He has been living and working in Stockholm, Sweden, for many years. He graduated from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest and also studied in Stockholm at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and at Beckmans College of Design. His studio, Gábor Palotai Design, works on a broad range of design projects such as visual identity, editorial design, exhibitions and environmental design for companies and cultural institutions. Gábor Palotai works across genres in both art and design, operating with a holistic concept of visual culture. Over the years, his world of visual art has been realised in different media and has won numerous awards.

Red Dot: How would you define good communication design?
Gábor Palotai: Creating unique, personal and visually inspiring worlds.

Why did you become a designer?
My mother was a textile designer. She already inspired me as a child to be creative.

How do you convince your customers of the merit of your designs?
I let the work convince them.

What does it take to be successful as a communication designer?
In my opinion, you must deliver high quality and have personal engagement to be successful.
