Mikhail Larionov

Back Download

The work habits of Mikhail Larionov, an avant-garde Russian painter of the early 20th century, were the inspiration for this exhibition catalogue published in two languages. His experiments with different materials, techniques, colours and fonts are reflected in the editorial design. The open spine sewn with red thread, a folder-like cover, inside pages of different sizes and colours, all of this resembles an artist’s notebook. The composition on the inside gives an illusion of artistic chaos: superimposed transparent images, raster photographs, placement of illustrations and captions. The typography is reminiscent of typesetting posters and the Russian avant-garde.
